Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking program called The Soul Box Project. This community art initiative aims to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence in our nation. Participants are invited to create origami Soul Boxes, each representing a life affected by gunfire. These small paper cubes serve as a poignant reminder of the individuals behind the statistics, offering a space for reflection and healing.
Throughout February, the library will host a display of Soul Boxes, creating a visual representation of the scale of gun-related incidents in our country. By participating in this program, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful installation, adding your own handcrafted box to the exhibit. All materials will be provided, and no prior origami experience is necessary. This hands-on activity not only serves as a form of remembrance but also as a way to connect with others in our community who share concerns about public safety.
The Soul Box Project is designed to be a non-partisan, inclusive experience that honors victims of gun violence, accidents, and suicide, regardless of circumstances. It offers a unique way to engage with a challenging topic through art and community building. By folding these boxes together, we create a space for conversation, reflection, and unity in working towards safer communities for all.
A senior Health Education Specialist from the Contra Costa Health Violence Prevention Program will share gun violence data in Contra Costa County.
